A Test of Faith in Strangers . . .

Posted by Sober Chick on Saturday, December 30 2006 at 7:17 pm

Franks daughter

I use to attend a meeting on Tuesday evenings called Ed’s meeting. A friend in the program started it for Ed because Ed is limited to only his home as a result of hurting his back. My friend Alice invited me, the only 2 gals among the 7-10 45 year old men. Ed’s meeting has great recovery, and cross talk tolerated :) Anyhow Ed’s 19 year old daughter has been on the list for a new kidney for 4 years. The Internet provided a larger search to seek a donor. Ed was very skeptical at first knowing the scams and such out there. Jenna is scheduled on January 16th to get a new kidney!

A Test of Faith in Strangers

In addition, my friend Steve just got his first 30 days of continuous sobriety. How fricken awesome is that!!! He has started a blog, please stop by and visit Sober Steve.

I am very grateful for technology and the Internet today. It has allowed me to connect to you and meet others that are walking on a similar path but living elsewhere. It does not replace a meeting or working the 12 steps of recovery. However it does give me a chance to love you, to know your experiences and grow from your life. Thank you for helping me to keep sober.

I recall my first 30 days . . .

Casa 2005

I am a person with an ill perception. My reality was an illusion crafted by my sick thinking. To many degrees it still is today. However there is a remedy, a solution that is very simple. It is a solution that is not of my own making.

The first month of my sobriety was a blur. I was not sure if I was going to stay. I had reservations, but but God’s grace I remained sober. I began to feel something, it was a freedom and a clarity that I have never felt before. I was exposed to prayer, steps 1 thru 3 and humility in my first 30 days. My vocabulary shifted, and I found myself saying words like God, gratitude and serenity.

I am reminded of my early experiences by having communication with my friend Steve. Many struggle in early sobriety, the intensity of the drink calls to our every thought. Because I have stood I get to see others discover what I have, it is something paramount to my recovery. Keep Coming Back!!!

Do you remember your first 30 days?

Olive Got Tagged, & Now has her own Blog :)

hAAppy fridAAy!!! According to my book it is Christmas Eve Eve Eve! Mitch and I are going to see a recovery friend do his stand up comedy at the Comedy Store in Hollywood tonight. There is a 2 drink min, so we will be filling up on soda and water.

Ok, Olive keeps bothering me about wanting her own blog. So I finally gave in and created an account for her at the new blogger. It is pretty cool, I like it but am using the old blogger because I can get down and dirty with the Cascading Style Sheets — more freedom to manipulate the page elements of Olive’s blog.

Olive, Budda and myself came up with a list of 6 weird things for each other and posted them on Olive’s new blog. When Olive saw Boot’s blog she grew really motivated to have a blog of her own. After all she is an Al-Anon Doggie (or Al-A-Dog) and needs to share her experience, strength and hope. She too has been affected by my drinking and there was a time when I could not care for her. I am grateful that my mom and Mitch loved her when I was not able. It still hurts me today at times to know what I put my animals through.

hAAppy fridAAy to all. I wish you a very sober weekend and more so, many, many blessings. MUAH! PS, Budda will be posting this weekend on Olive’s blog. She was by Designer Girl and Olive was tagged by Walden, Scout’s companion. Love you all!
